Here is a Winchester 1895 Flatside in 38-72 ca. 1896. The rifles from the first couple years of manufacture had flat sides rather than the more common scalloped sides. I suppose it had something to do with the loading of smokeless cartridges and that Winchester could use the same action for all 1895s all the way up to the 405. It is in what I call undisturbed condition, turning a nice brown, almost olive color. A really honest example of an early 1895. |
