I just got an 1895 in 38-72 (flatside made in 1896)and am interested in whether anybody here has worked up smokeless loads for one?

Yep!!.

36 grain Norma 201(very similar to IMR 3031)to a 270grain Lyman leadbullet. Never chronographed it but it was accurate and packed enoungh power.

The cases were reformed .30-40krag. I sized the lead bullets .378cal. If I used .379cal leadbullets the caseneck touched the chamberwalls.

I had a 1895 made in 1903 with round barrel. Lovely rifle.
