Yes a single stack 4 shot magazine ; the rifle holds 5 . Before WW2 the US had an abundance of Walnut trees with nice grain . It's not unusual to see pre war rifles with excellent wood . WW2 took most of the decent trees for Garand and Carbine stocks .Interestingly the Savage Super Sporter receiver and magazine are very similar to my Sauer 90 . Even the bolt handles are similar . The Savage of course is a much less complex rifle with fewer parts and therefor more reliable.Decades of hunting have produced zero malfunctions or problems of any kind .
