Everyone remembers the pre 64 Winchester 70 but Americans made most excellent other bolt action rifles prior to WW2 : The Winchester Model 54 , the Remington Model 30 Express ( Used by the great American hunter Grancel Fitz exclusively ) The ultra rare Remington 720 , the Savage Model 20 and the Savage Super Sporter .And of course Stuart E. Whites and Teddy Roosevelt's Springfield Sporters . I will do a later article on my Dads Remington 720 bought in Alaska in late 1941 just months prior to Pearl Harbor . Dad was stuck in Alaska till spring ( always in danger of a Jap attack ) when he got back to the states and promptly joined the US Marines
