Re: Just started Casting - Learning a lot

I am reading alot about powder coating cast bullets. No lube needed and one can push them to almost same velocity as jacketed without any leading.
Cast, powder coat, bake, and size is what one does. Gas check is optional. I am looking into this process to eliminate the lubing process and the mess. Getting higher velocities is somewhat interesting also.

Sparks,
Harbor Freight is one prime reason why you can try electrostatic powder coating. $65 or so for a spray gun set up, sometimes cheaper on eBay, $5 a POUND of coating powder
Last time I checked, it wa AUD 12 per OUNCE here in Oz and the EPC gun etc was in excess of double the US prices.
I seemed to get fairly decent results on cast Lee .452 , 230 gr in a .45 ACP. wIth 4.5 gr Red Dot, using Duplicolor Hi temp black which needs to be sprayed then baked for 2 hours.

Old Brit ,

if you have any soy candles , try a few tsp of that added to your primary BW mix. (some users advocate upto 60:40 BW/ Soy mix)
Because of its low melting temperatures, soy wax may be just right for the UK climate, with the addition of a couple of tsp. of ATF or 2T.
It will ' hold ' the oils well, and give your lube a tacky consistency,to fill the lube grooves without flaking. At 1000 fps, may do the trick.

Cheers
