I have got a lot of 9x57 Mauser ammo, stuff that was leftover of a schwedisch moose hunter. this unknown gentleman had have cartridges from before WW1 up into the 1960s. the lot contains also some 9x56 Mannlicher Schönauer cartridges. I try them into my M 88 in 9x57 Mauser and they load fine and would be safe to shot. full boxes, I suspect the Kynoch ammo was bought beetween 1945 and 1955 when german made ammo was not available. the finnisch made ammo box is a very early post war made. headstamp is VKT, a firm that become VMT in 1946 and become a Part of Valmet in 1951. ![]() mixed bag, interesting only one Norma round was in this lot, maybe he shot it the most. the third round from the right is a hollow point. the first hollow point in 9x57 I had in my hands.the fourth from the right seems to be the old 14,9 gramm DWM load. ![]() the old german ammo have the "491 A" headstamp (DWM case number) or is stamped with M88/9x57 - the original cartridge designation ![]() 9x56 MS and 9x57 Mauser by DWM both with 16 gramm bullet ![]() ![]() RWS and DWM also some interwar period Geco make the mass. you could easy recognise the 16gramm and the 18 gramm bullets. both bullet weight are fifty-fifty in this lot. few but also some 18 gramm full metal jackets! the second from the right is remarkable because the bullet is not nickel plated(RWS load). ![]() ![]() when compare the bullet one notize that there a differences over the years but the bullet's were sold under the same number. here two RWS cartridges - same bullet weight, same number in the catalogue ![]() ![]() the difference between the 9x57 and the 9,3x57 is the cartridge lenght with different bullets from left to right: 9x57 16 gr bullet 9x57 18,2 gr bullet 9,3x57 18,5 gr bullet 9,3x57 18,5 gr bullet 9,3x57 16,6 gr bullet ![]() the 9,3x57 was and is loaded to a shorter oal with the heavy bullet weight so having less space for powder than the 9mm Mauser by the same dealer I have got 11,2x60 Schüler rounds, DWM made this is one of the very expensive collector cartridges and I have steal them(it was legal). ![]() original and handload(Horneber brass and Degol bullet) ![]() would be very interesting to shot them through a chrony but I dont think doing it ![]() |
