DD Yep Peter is right. Historically a cross-bar is used on a boar spear to prevent a boar "running up" the spear on a charge and so guards the hunter. Sounds quite dramatic! Note the blade on that spear head is already 16 inches so the cross bar could well be 20 inches from the point. I can't wait to see that spear head as it looks quite impressive in size. |
