Home made boar spear

I've just ordered one of these:

Quote:

Viking Hewing Spearhead

Although we do not know the exact form and shape of the Viking hewing spear, we do know that they were used. Hank Reinhardt designed this spear based on his own experience. This is a spear that would thrust effectively, and yet have the power to cut decisively. High carbon steel blade. Overall length 25", Blade length 16".

I haven't received it yet so no idea about quality yet.

Now I want add a cross-bar to the blade either in the shaft below the head or in the metal 'collar' under the blade.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to go about it?

I'm thinking affix the spear head to the shaft. Drill through the metal 'collar', through the wood and out the other side a small hole to insery maybe a carbon steel bar. Maybe threaded on both ends with a large bar screwed into a smaller one affixed inside the shaft. I don't want to weaken the shaft too much as I wouldn't want it to snap in use.

Any suggestions?
