The description as a „British navy forester’s Hirschfaenger” is just plain BS. Such Hirschfänger-like daggers - short swords, straight bladed or curved depending on time and fashion, are called “hangers” in British parlance. Until after WW1 they were part of the dress uniforms of midshipmen (ensigns, cadet officers) of the Royal Navy instead of the full-sized swords worn by commissioned officers. |
