Plenty of sentiment here akin to my own. Modern compound bows are such a complex contraption though, you might as well be using mechanical broadheads to complete the meccano set. But mechanicals just don't seem "pukka" launched from 'traditional' recurves or long-bows. Being exclusively a recurve shooter, I was raised on a steady diet of Davies Deltas until Allen 'invented' the Aztec. After that, I used Aztecs exclusively. They were less than a buck each back then, and I left several hundred of them scattered along the banks of the Burdekin and gulf rivers, lost in the bush. Complete pass-throughs on big boars with 23/64th cedar shafts were not uncommon from my 65lb Hoyt Pro-Hunter. Those were the days! Not sure I could ever embrace sight-pins and tiny non-helical plastic fletches, let alone any bow so short that a release-aid was mandatory. That thing about old dogs and new tricks... |
