Lynn You should easily get a knife through in checked luggage. As long as the knife isn't a two edged dagger. When I was in Berlin airport and their scanners picked up something solid and "un-xrayable" I had to go to a secure area and open the bag. The item was a pewter flask. Anyway the silly female officer almost laid an egg when she found a knife (sheath knife - I had done some hunting) in my luggage and questioned me about it. I answered "SO WHAT?" and the male officer, said no problem. Then back through the whole rigmoural of x-rays etc to get to the flight waiting area. They did apologise for the inconvenience saying they had to be careful being a capital city airport. They were good, even xraying the soles of ones shoes. Which is better than letting passengers walk through if you go behind a pretty girl AND set off the metal detector alarm like I did in Zimbabwe! Another time I came into Adelaide airport with five assorted swords and knifes. No problems at all. |
