Now that our weather is finally getting decent we can spend time shooting arrows and socializing with friends. I belong to a club (there are many like this in the USA) that holds outdoor archery shoots every year. They run as a league for 12 weeks duration. May starts the 3-D leagues which means following some trails in the woods to various animal tagerts to shoot at. The distances are not given and sometimes you need to really stretch to get the right shot. Sometimes you have to climb up into stands, sometimes targets are down a steep hill or there is a lot of brush and a small opening is all you've got to shoot through. Various foam animals include caribou, elk, moose, deer, turkeys, bears, cougars, leopard, hyena, wild boar, antelope etc. Have yet to see a roo though! There are 15 stations each week on 4 different trails. This weekly session sure helps you get ready for the upcoming hunting season. You must learn to judge distances. It's a lot of fun and you get 3 to 4 people in a team and everyone tallys up their scores and at the end of the league the high point team gets a prize. There is also a big BBQ and party. |
