Fairbairn Sykes dagger

Quote:

Per Wikipedia: The Fairbairn-Sykes Fighting Knife is a double-edged knife with a foil grip developed by William Ewart Fairbairn and Eric Anthony Sykes in Shanghai before World War II, but made famous during the War when issued to British Commandos, including the SAS. The F-S Fighting knife often is compared to a stiletto; the comparison is misleading, as the stiletto is for stabbing and has a longer, narrower (often triangular) blade that typically features no sharpened edge at all. The Wilkinson Sword Company made the knife with minor pommel and grip design variations; currently, the F-S Fighting Knife (having no other practical application but hand-to-hand combat) is of interest mainly to collectors, but it remains in production because of its sleek appearance and historical associations. The knife is strongly associated with the British commandos and the US OSS and Marine Raiders (who based their issued knife on the Fairbairn-Sykes), among other special forces / clandestine / raiding units.

The Fairbairn Sykes MoD Commando Dagger
.
The William Rodgers FS sterile (unmarked) all black ‘Official’ Ministry of Defence (MoD) dagger is the only Fairbairn Sykes fighting knife in the world that is supplied under Government contract to the British Ministry of Defence and is listed as an inventory item with the NATO Procurement Division in Luxembourg. MoD specifications state that no issue FS knife shall be stamped with any identification marks. This is confirmed in the manufacturer’s official ‘Letter of Authenticity’ which is supplied with this knife. Amongst other things, it provides the official MoD specs number E/1323E and the NATO stock No. 1095 99 963 2037. For those who appreciate authenticity, this is a real bonus.
.
The Fairbairn Sykes during WW2 became a legend.

The Kizlyar DV-2 is a big solid knife. Makes me think of a Russian T-72 tank or a BMP armoured personnel carrier.

Purchased this knife from Kizlyar at the SCI show at a discounted price as it is marked on the pommel. Good buy. Would make a great pig sticking knife I think. Would also be easy to keep sharp I think.

Quote:

DV-2 - “Dalnya-Vostorchny Spetsnaz”, an acronym for a special purpose unit within the Russian military, whose operational role mainly encompasses the form of a “mobility troop” type, being LRRP (long range reconnaissance patrol) and counter-insurgency operations. This model of knife was designed by the unit and was subsequently made to their specifications. Their requirement was that their knife should be of the extreme hard use type, able to be used for the majority of tasks associated with living off the land deep behind enemy lines or in a frozen Siberian wasteland. If you purchase this knife from Kizlyar we strongly recommend that you buy more than one, you will need to after your friends “relieve” you of the knife if you show it off to them. What can we say, it will make your colleagues green with envy. This, we believe, is one of the finest production knives money can buy today, but not only is it functional, it is also a work of art. Featuring a hand ground, blackened z60 steel blade, a 40x13 stainless steel pommel / guard and a hand shaped / polished walnut handle, make this knife a real show-stopper. Each knife is completely hand made and no two are totally alike. Not only is the knife a fine knife to observe, it is also a fine knife to use. The 235mm long x 5.8mm thick blade serves well in any task you need to execute. Be it chopping, slicing, slashing, carving, food preparation, processing meat and game animals. It is the ultimate in heavy duty, general purpose knives and can be used as such. It is not recommended that a knife be used for tasks other that cutting but in the event of an emergency, this knife can double as a pry-bar and axe (through the use of the chopping edge along the spine of the blade). This is one knife that can be used and used and used until you are too old to use it any more and when you pass it on to the next member of your family, it will outlast them aswell. A beautiful, heavy, handmade leather sheath accompanies this knife with the purchase.
