I have bowhunted since the early 80s when I was in high school. I never got close enough to a deer back then to even get a shot off. After college I strated to get into bowhunting. It was the first time that I realized that skill in the set up and stand placement was the key to taking game on a regular basis. This mental game of trying to firure out where when and why a buck will be using a certain trail or area is the challenge that I love about bow hunting. I also got ahold of a REALLY great book on hunting whitetails by Greg Miller called "Aggresive whitetail Hunting". This book really turned the light on for me and made me understand that bucks behave differently than does and thet use separate trails for much of the year. Since reading that book in the early 90s I have been fourtunate enough to take a whitetail buck and several does every year. A few even made the Pope & Young record book. The woods are also less crowded during the archery season and it is easier to hunt deer on their own terms. |
