I have tested the sound issue and done it in a very safe way. An archer friend set a target off to the side of a very large tree. Myself and another stood behind the trunk out of range of arrows while the friend shot arrows from varying distances (using a compound bow). The further away he was from the target the more sonic the arrow sounded and the less you could hear the string until at one point you could not hear the bow itself but only the arrow in flight. It is quite loud.
