Cool, Sarg! - I tried the new WW Fosters that are 1 ounce at 1,700fps from my Mosberg pump/with 2 shot magazine/clip like the bolt guns - this pump has a solid one piece walnut stock and outside fitting slide. I guess I really should take a picture of it. I had never seen one before I found it on consignment at a local gun shop. It was so odd, I thought I had to have it. Now, it's a dedicated slug/ball shooter - at least it's got sights now for testing. : The above mentioned slugs went into a ragged hole at 25 yards. Too bad they're so soft. ; I asked Hubel, the guy with the 12 bore from Hell threads, about loads for a slug or RB with 4227 for the gun and he suggested starting at 60gr. and going from there, either way as pressure indicated. I've a few loaded for testing, but will have to wait till after Easter to test them. I think we should be able to see 1,800fps with 500gr. hard slugs. This is 300fps higher than the 7 dram Black Powder load for Africa noted in Greener's book. : Friend Carl from Alberta sent me some Lyman 500gr. waisted 'sabot' slugs cast in WW's. They fit perfectly inside a red WW field wad. ; Sarg- you need to try these, I think. Wait on my IMR4227 tests, or use Lyman's slug data from their handloading books. I may have to add another Lyman mould to my mould flock. ; The grouping of your shots is great, a bit wider than parallel, but excellent none the less. : Carl noted that the Lyman slugs outpenetrated the Brenneke's in his test. They have a heavy solid nose with a fairly shallow hollow base behind the waist. I am hoping they'll do as well as round balls. : Since your gun is regulating so closely, a bit more power might either bring them in a bit closer, or spread them - can never remember how that goes. They're close right now, that's for sure. We only need to get a more deeply penetrating slug to do the same thing for you. Fosters suck big time on bone and other hard stuff. |
