Daryl Could you please comment on the below method of cleaning leaded shotgun barrels. I posted this a while ago but got no response. I use a strong bamboo stick & not steel or aluminium rod. I roll a tight plug of newspaper about the size of a 12g hull & soak it with solvent. The bore is also swabbed with solvent & left for a while. Then I push the tight paper plug through the chamber end. The tighter the paper the better - I then use the bamboo stick to tap the plug out. The paper plug usually unrolls a bit in the barrel but it scrubs the bore very well. 3 to 5 such plugs usually smears out most of the lead from the bore. You can actually see large patches of lead smeared on to the paper. I have never scratched a bore with this method (but then I do not own any expensive high grade shotguns!) I would like to know what methods others use to clean leaded bores after using slugs. |
