Well I'm hoping to do a Cape Barren geese pest shoot or two this year. My mate Orion whom I hunted pigs with last year has been going on these shoots a few times but soon after the pig shoot the crops were too high . Cape Barren Geese are officially protected once being endangered. But alike with many other Australian game when they become plentiful they stay protected. the mantra is "native is totally protected", "introduced is to be exterminated". That passes for wildlife management with Australian Wildlife authorities. These Cape Barren Geese are a serious pest on some farms and they have been granted destruction permits. No limits! Most of the shooters fly over but this means very little can be carried especially meat back. I would love to go over with a nice big cooler and fill it with goose meat. The 8 or 12 hour drive is a bit daunting though compared to a 40 minute (I think) plane flight across the gulf. Here's hoping for 2004! |
