8X, I don't like the idea of giving a young hunter something that has a second shot left from the same trigger. Too many new shooters will pop a bird with the first shot, then get excited and forget to put the safety back on. I saw a dad have his left ear shot off by his son just this way when I was about 9-10 years old. When I moved up from my Savage 220 single shot HAMMERLESS 20ga to a double, my dad made sure it was a double trigger double. While not completely the solution to the accidental second shot, it mitigates the chances somewhat. You might consider a good quality DT SXS 20ga or a used Valmet made older Savage o/u with DT.
