The modern Westley Richards sporting gun, in its classic side-by-side form, is an amalgamation of a number of essential mechanisms. The lock, as a means of detonating a centre-fire cartridge, is still the one devised by Deeley & Taylor in 1897, itself a hand-detachable variant of the Anson & Deeley patent of 1875.
