Re: Forging damascus steel barrels

Damascus barrels from the article.

My father's and before that grandfather's old cheapo Hollis 12-bore shotgun with hammers, maybe 2 1/2" chambers has Damascus barrels.

So is it an old cheapo or worth restoring?

I don't have any good images of it, if any good ones are possible!

It rattles a little from I think rust rattling between the barrels. It sat it sheds for many years. "Guns not allowed in the house" someone instructed. Normal 2 3/4" shells were used in it for decades. Until I worked out the chambers were shorter. I think I have some Italian Fiocchi shot shells for it. I used to shoot it quite well. Anyway I so etimes like to shoot something old with hammers.

My other "grandfather's" shotgun is a USA Stevens side by side. Also with hammers. One missing. Proper steel. I assume normal chambers? Must check! Never shot it. Waiting to replace the lost hammer.

I'd like some minimal restoring on the Hollis anyway. Carried by family for many years.
