My 'new' W&S 16 bore single

Hello chaps

Just thought I would share a recent find. If I can add the photographs it will be even better!

I found a 'new-in box' Webley & Scott single barrel 16 bore/ gauge a couple of weeks ago. Its proof marks show that it was made in 1962, but has never been used since. It has a 30" barrel with a top lever and a recessed hammer that has to be cocked before firing. It also has a vigorous ejector, which is good. The design dates back to 1910 and a patent by H. Baker.

It has no bead fitted to the barrel, no safety catch and no chequering either. These were made for gamekeepers to carry about loaded and closed, ready for action.

I mainly bought it because of the beautiful, untouched colour case hardening on the action. It also shoots well!
