My first shotgun was a sixteen. It was not very old, it was second hand, and it was my ticket to deer hunt since that's all you could use. It was a Mossberg bolt with a 2 shot box magazine. Back in the days of the mid 1950's the average hunter in our woods carried a SXS, but for me just 14 the bolt was good enough. Over the years, and owning many single, doubles, O/U, pumps and autoloaders from 410 to 10 gauge, the soft spot for the 16 has remained for me the true upland gun and gauge. I still have the 16 bolt from dad those 56 years ago along with some of their mates.
