I've just come into the possession of an H&H that came out of a wholesaler's dragnet two or three years ago. It was found in Victoria BC and an email to H&H showed it was commissioned by a Victoria doctor in 1876 as part of a matched set. The shotgun has been restocked with a cadged butt after a hard fall (based in the brazed tang). Make no mistake the gun's rough. The barrel, forend, and action do not have matching serials. The engraving *looks* like a match. What I'm wondering is if anyone in the PNW may have the mate or information on the gun. It may have come in with the gold rush. I can't see too many bespoke shotguns coming into Victoria at the time, but who knows. The border was pretty blurry at the time so I can see the mate being anywhere between San Francisco and Alaska.
