A neighbour of mine here in England turns out to own a Remington Model 31 slide action shotgun with 20" cylinder choke barrel. The serial number of 52,xxx puts it in the range of a batch of 12,000 procured for the US Government in about 1941. These seem to be particularly rare here in England, and I am not sure how this one came to be here - maybe a GI traded it for a bottle of Scotch! Its owner has had it for 60+ years without firing it. We are just in the process of cleaning all the old oil off it. Any comments from our American cousins about this firearm? Are they more valuable than the civilian models?? HB |
