when the 3500 serial number range was short before the 1891 proof law this rifle number 1491 could not be made before 1873/74 when the mauser 71 realy starts
this would mean only 1500 guns since the late 1850s
As this rifle with the single set trigger, also serving to cock the rifle, is made to Wilhelm Collath's 1881 patent DRP # 18162, it was made between 1881 and 1893.
