Bramble, I had a couple post reticles on rifles years ago and though I THOUGHT I was going to like them I had the exact same experience as you. For some reason it just didn't work with my eyes.

I do like the somewhat similar #4 very much, and have several, both Leupold and Burris. I like the Burris best as the middle crosswire is thinner than the Leupold. The Leupold seems to subtend about 3.5-4 inches at 200 yards. Like the post reticle pictured, the #4 has the "open top" {actually, fine wire} which allows full viewing of the body of the critter. Fast acquisition with both #4's tho.
