Indeed, as noted before, if the number of elephant killed is the only criteria, the 7.62x51 NATO and 7.62x39 Russian are probably the world's best cullers!

Having said that in jest, quite seriously it seems difficult to conceive of many calibers a whole lot BETTER than a .404.
