Hi guys The big day finally came after a nearly 3 week wait. I'm on the road at 9:00am for my 160 mile round trip drive to pick up my new Winchester M70 Safari Express .458 Magnum. I arrive at the dealers fill out the paperwork give the gun a quick once over and I'm back on the road. I arrive back home and open the box to wipe the gun down, run a clean patch thru the bore, load 100 510grn SP rounds in the truck and head to the range. I pick the gun up out of the box and shoulder it thinking about how good the rifle feels and then I notice the sights are mounted at about 11:30 instead of 12 o'clock on top of the barrel. I double check and sure enough the sights are mounted to the left of the center of the barrel. By now I'm getting a sick feeling. I go back to the box to pick up the bolt and notice there is a white substance surrounding a mound of rust in the seam of the bolt near the handle (It appears to be bluing salts that were not washed away after the bluing process. I call Winchester and speak to a very nice gentleman who stated they will take care of me and will mail me a UPS return label. I know I should have taken a better look at the rifle before leaving the dealer but as usual I was in a hurry to beat the heavy Friday afternoon traffic. Hope everybody's day went better. I will be updating as I hear back from Winchester. Scott |
