Re: 375 H&H vs. 9.3x62

Quote:

I am going to have a gun made for my wife. She doesn't like alot of recoil. We like the gun to shoot heavier bullets (286 to 320 grains). With a 300 grain in the 375, I could down load it to 2350 or get a 9.3x62 with its 286 or 320 grain bullets at about the same speed. Any thoughts? Also, what is the availability of the 9.3x62 ammo in Africa? Is it as available as the 375 H&H? Thanks

I used my .375 H&H with 300 gr projectiles loaded to about 2350 fps in Zimbabwe and South Africa on cape buffalo and various plains game. It killed the cape buffalo just fine.

The reason for the load was with the powder I had this was where it was most accurate so I just used it like that.

I prefer the .375 myself and also it is legal in more countries with less chance of 'dispute'. A 9.3mm is often said to be legal but often fails to meet the actual criteria. Probably 98% not a problem but why get hit for a bribe if it is the 2%, unless you really want to get a 9.3x62.

If you do really want to get a 9.3x62 go for it. I don't have one but it is a great bolt action round and one everyone should have for medium game.

As for buying loaded ammo I always have used my own handloads. I remember seeing some ammo in a gunshop in Windhoek.
