Dean, The writing of Norbert Hansen clarified the genuine and distinct advantages of a flat nosed solid. Please see the following: http://www.grosswildjagd.de/penetrat.htm http://home.snafu.de/l.moeller/Zielwirkung/Superpenetrator.htm http://home.snafu.de/l.moeller/Wild/Elefantenjagd.html To summarize: 1. The shallowest penetration is achieved with a hemisphereical round nose solid, like a Barnes solid, a TCCI or an A-Square product. 2. Next shallowest penetration is achieved with a more sloping round nose, like a Woodleigh solid. 3. Second best penetration is obtained from a flat nosed solid. Examples include Bridger, GS Custom FN solids, Speer AGS and Trophy Bonded Sledgehammer. 4. Best penetration is obtained when a supercavitation disk is used, found on the Norbert Superpenetrator. That being said, getting flat nosed solids to feed properly is a little more difficult than getting round noses to feed, but worth the effort. least |
