Re: .416 Taylor: Who's got One???

You are quite correct Daryl.
However, I usually only run my 400s at 2300 FPS. Again, I can't tell any difference in it's effect on game even when I have seen the effects of the 416 Weatherby in comparison.
A friend of mine used the Rigby the the Weatherby, and I shoot the Taylor. All the hits on all the game have been about the same in their effectiveness and all the bullets but one (from the Weatherby) have exited)
At 2300/ 400gr. My Taylor kills as well as anything I have seen in the 416s. The 505 Gibbs kills a bit faster in some cases, and makes a bigger wound, but even my 458s and 460s have not seemed to be much better on game than my 416 Taylor. Maybe a little, but I think I would have to kill a lot more animals to be sure. However, I LIKE the Taylor better. It's lighter than the CZ 602 or the CZ 550 magnum. It kicks no harder even though it's abut 2 pounds lighter. Yes, it "only" holds 4 rounds, but I have NEVER fired them all, and I reload on the run pretty well anyway, which is easy to do with the Mauser 416.
So, for an all around rifle, I have to say my 375 or my 4156 are without a doubt my favorites of extra large or dangerous game, and I use my 270 Winchester (also on a Mauser) for everything else.
(if I am not using a flintlock)
