What ever finish you do not care about because your gun will rack up a lifetime of use on safari. Between the dust and the constant gun handling the gun will come home "used". My hunting guns are just that. I do not care about scratches, dings or the finish wearing off the barrel. I wrap my barrels in camo cloth tape to eliminate the glare.
