Yup---I agree with the Hornady's for many options. I currently use their 270 & 225 grns for practice and for smaller game like deer & pigs. I use 69 grns. of H4895 for both giving 2600+ fps & 2700+ fps repectively with mild pressure. But, while the Hornady 270 would probably be plenty effective, when I spend a bunch of money on hunts of a lifetime for premium game such as large Alaska game or African plains game, a dollar a bullet is cheap peace-of-mind. So I think premium bullets for premium game is a good idea. I'm currently leaning toward the Swift A-Frame or Northforks over the Barnes TSX because of somwhat more shock and upset, albiet with less penetration which the Barnes probably wins with. I think the TSX's better in a 300gr weight for the heavy dangerous types. When I build a load for these I will probably go with the deeper penetration capabilites of the TSX's For any of you guys that have used any of these bullets on game, what are your thoughts or preferences? |
