Re: .50BMG ricochet

Subguns, particularly because of the low velocity ammo they shoot and the quantity of bullets pouring out, are big-time ricocheters. I used to own a couple Stemple .45 ACP subguns and firing at steel plates would result in many bullets launching straight up in the air, quite visible to the shooter and those next to him. Lots of hot brass everywhere, etc and brass burns are not uncommon. The Belgians are, in my opinion, really on to something with the forward "soft" ejection of their 5.56 FN2000 bullpup.

Incidently, I was about 30 yards from the steel plate {a railroad fishplate} when that 7.62 shard came back and it was visible to me, coming straight back at me off the plate as a glint in the air. I barely felt it though when I looked at my hand the blood was flowing. As it turned out, after it hit my hand it ricocheted off and then struck the ground where I found it. There were a several other pieces around so others had done the same thing without my noticing.

Shooting steel helmets with pistols is another activity that produces a lot of ricochets. All this stuff is fun to do but darn dangerous as it turns out.
