Mike, That is true, but don't forget how market hunting in the US West was actually done. If you put a slug through both lungs of an American bison, it would stand around bellowing while all the others circled around it. One by one you could pick them off, until after a number were killed, the others got wise and departed. African game really never did this. Brain shot elephants, collapsing instantly, would not unduly spook others (so I have read) but lung shot ones would. My point is that using AA2230 it is no trick at all to equal or surpass the momentum, energy, Taylor KO, or whatever of the famous old nitro expresses up to and including the 470. And our bullets are much better now. As for dropping to 450 grain bullets in .458, they have more SD than the 300 grain .375 bullet. Besides, I don't relish having more recoil. BTW: My hinting experience wioth .458s is vast, consisting of penetrating at least 25 paper targets to date! ![]() |
