Re: Cast Performance 460 gr.

Smashing both shoulders of a big Canadian Moose is easily accomplished with a 14 to 12 bore round ball cast of straight Wheelweights. These run about 12 to 13 brinel and are much harder than any of the 'hardened' balls of the 19th century. Harder, yet non-deforming and non-fragmenting balls can be cast of 1/2 WW and 1/2 pure lead, then heat treated to brinel 20 or so. Straight Linotype is too brittle for penetrating bones.
; The WW balls, started at around 1,500 to 1,550fps are usually undamaged by the trip through both moose leg bones, ith the 12 bore ball usually exiting. These aren't small deer bones, but aren't Cape Buff bones, either.
