From: Nitro (Original Message) Sent: 1/30/2002 6:10 PM Holland & Holland has released two new big bore cartridges, the 400 H&H Magnum and the 465 H&H Magnum. From their reports Holland & Holland has experienced increasing numbers of enquiries for big bore rifles especially for hunting big and dangerous game in Africa. As a result they have introduced the two new cartridges. Building on their experience with the peerless all round African hunting cartridge the .375 H&H Magnum they sought to create two new cartridges with more power and provide more leeway for the very largest game. The new cartridges designed for bolt action rifles do not offer light bullets and high velocity instead concentrating on the formula of heavy bullets and bullet diameter to do the job. While the .375 H&H propels a 300 gr bullet at a muzzle velocity of 2,500 ft/sec for a muzzle energy of 4,100 ft lbs, the new .400 H&H pushes a 400 gr bullet at 2,350 ft/sec and the .465 H&H pushing a 480 gr at approx the same velocity, the new cartridges aiming for a minimum of 5,000 ft lbs. Thats all the info I have now, but will post more when more details are available. It will be interesting to see if these two new cartridges are rimless or belted and what the actual calibres turn out to be. If you come across anything, go ahead and post.
