When I heard about this rifle my first thought was it would make more sense as part of a family of rifles. For example, Ruger could come out with a Hawkeye African in .458 win mag on the same action, so somebody with no safari battery at all could get a matched pair for less than $2000. Familiarity with one would translate to the other, maybe even the scopes if one broke in the field. One in .338 win mag with the same sights would be neat and I'd probably buy that to play with before I gave it to my daughter. Under what other circumstances would a short action .375 make sense?
The Ruger folks at SCI pooh-pooh'd the idea.
