Re: What's wrong with a .458

I am trying to make a decision about which way to go on a DGR and I have a question regarding the Lott. Can a standard length (458/300 Mag) action be re-barreled to the Lott round or does the Lott round require a true, long (375/416 Rigby) magnum action? I realize there will be some additional work done to feed rails, bottom metal, etc. But the question remains, can the Lott be used in a standard length magnum action?

I have the standard length magnum action in both M70 Win and M98 Mauser. I would prefer to use the M98 as it is in-the-white, with no barrel and is a more "classic" DGR action. The M70 is a 338 Win Mag and I would like to keep it that way. But I would be willing to use the M70 if it will work and M98 will not.

Thanks in advance for any and all comments.............Lee
