Re: Give me a break...

I had hoped that the business would carry on with his Family.... glad to hear it!

That book will be a slick piece,,,, Fred had some pretty wild stuff in his repetoire.

and please do post any info you have on it when you learn more.
Why am i not surprised that you know Fred and Rachel.... fine people both!

Fred was always intrigued with the Szecsei/Fuchs Double Barreled Bolt Repeater and would check up on the goings on with any new developements... it was a treat to watch him and Szecsei shoot the breeze....conversations that were far better listened to than trying to get involved in if you know what i mean... and i'm sure you do.

I recall the first time that Gerhard Fuchs met Fred and Fred complimented Gerhard on his fine workmanship after handling and critically reviewing an early production double bolt rifle. imediately after that he and Szecsei dove deep into the technical aspects of the gun and stayed hard at it for 15 or 20 minutes. shortly after Fred left to go back and man his booth, Gerhard asked me...."who was that man?...he sure knew what he was looking at"

i said that was Fred Wells... a fixture, nearing legend, amongst custom rifle makers!

In his very quiet, and unassuming way he had left a mark on a young and very skilled Austrian Master (Ferlach Schooled) Gunmith.

it was a good gathering, as were all gatherings with Fred.

sorry if I wax quixotic...as i said earlier...Fred will be missed.
