First off, I've been gone a while, and have not posted for some good time now, because of a death in the family, and to be honest, it has had me in a daze for quite some time now, but good news is, I'm getting back to my old self now. And in doing so, I just went today and placed the order for the new Ruger. Came out a tad over $1600. I figure this one will be a good project as I work up some loads for it. I'll strictly handload these, as I do my .450-3 1/4" N.E., because the prices on even the factory Hornady ammo is steep, compared to brass and woodleighs. Should turn out to be a pretty good all-rounder gun for me, loading up or down, and I'm even thinking of working up some of what I like to call modern "tropical loads". But to make this interesting, and to have at least one point to the post here---does anyone have a Ruger like this, and how do you like it? Also, lets hear some load data. Right now, since I've just been shooting the .450 N.E., all I have for powder is the slow burning variety-like rl-15, 4831, etc. Got some 4198 handy. And I might be able to scrape some 3031 together. And some miltary flake powder from 8mm mauser bullet pulls(thatwould be neat-if I actually knew it's burn rate-but I don't-so I guess it will just have to sit there-too chancy). Anyway, I wanted to say "I'm back", and get some chat about the Lott started. And this Ruger. Should be getting it beginning of next week, so I'm in high spirits. I'm thinking it will be a good work gun for culling wild hogs down here with lighter loads. OH-what is that ".458 Express" I've heard of. It's supposed to have a 3" case. Same as the Lott, but at 3". Anyway, I'm back with a vengeance. --walksfar-- |
