Re: Reboring a Ruger RSM in 375H&H to something Bigger

In reply to:

Why rebore? Something special about the outside of the Ruger Factory Barrel?

Rebarrel, put a new barrel on. Without measuring I can't be sure but the Ruger barrel may not be large enough for reboring as large as you want to go.

By the way, what is a Ruger RSM? I thought the RSM was Winchester thing?

The Ruger RSM MkII rifle is a classic rifle with the barrel haveing the quarter rib, front sling swivel, and front sight ramp as an intregal part of the barrel steel. This is a feature you pay an extra $1500 for in a custom rifle.

www.ruger.com

Go to the Ruger web-site and click on firarms, then on rifles, then on bolt action, then on 77 MKII, then scroll down to the one listed as MAGNUM, and click on the picture of the rifle. It will take you to the three rifles in that catagory, then click on one of the pictures again, and it will inlarge the picture, and give you all the specs!

The simplest thing in this case is to either keep the 375H&H RSM MKII, and buy the same rifle chambered for 458LOTT, or sell the 375H&H and buy the 458LOTT MK II. Of course if the 500 is what floats his boat, then the re-bore is in order, but the magazine will have to be modified as well, and maybe a change of stock with something like a 505 Gibbs!
