This exact question came up on Accuratereloading and I posted this same input. I wanted one, looked for 3 or 4 months to find a dealer that would even say they could get one. I then waited about 2 months for the rifle. It was very rough. I could not manipulate the safety without great effort. To switch the safety, I had to push so hard I thought I tore the skin on my thumb. The finish on the metal was very rough and pebbley and the rifle had a big scratch on the barrel. Overall very poor fit and finish. The rifle felt like a 2x4, but it pointed well and set up nicely for me. Very poor fit and finish. I asked the shop to return it to CZ to repair the problems. CZ said they would not, because they had many people waiting for the rifle. I usually am very pleased with out of the box CZs, when price is taken into consideration, they put out a good product. Not so with the 404. I think if you want this caliber, you should resign yourself to the fact that you will have to spend more than $2300 to get a good rifle, or hunt ceaselessly for a bargain in another rifle in that price area. |
