: My old .458 2" (& .9.3x62) mausers shot well when fully bedded in the barrel channel, full length. They both held POI for 5 quick shots, so full bedding is also useable with a heavy calibre. I normally floated barrels due to match shooting reuqirments of long strings without POIU shift. I bedded the big bores more for stock stength than anything. It worked.
: The cross-bolts are good ideas if it isn't already done. I had to do that to the .458 2" due to the 56# recoil. 510gr. solids at 2,059fps. It only weighed 8 lbs with scope and was really hard on the soft black walnut stock. it also game me a nose bleed with the last 5 shot groups off the bags.
