Speaking of big bore encores, I have an encore chambered in 460 Weatherby. The first time I fired it,with full house loads, the 12" barrel ripped off the frame and landed 35 feet in front of me.The case ruptured and the head landed 75' behind me. I was told by the custom maker that the gun could handle this kind of power. I recieved a cut finger ligament on back of trigger finger, and a broken bone in my shooting wrist. After I sent it back to get it fixed, with heavier welds on frame I shot it twice more. It stayed together, but kicked like hell. Recoil was straight back horizontally, not much, verticle rotation. You can handle the recoil as long as the gun stays together,no injuries with second two shots, but it still hurt to shoot. Approximately 4800 ft.lbs of energy at muzzle ! Arizona custom handgun maker is no longer making an encore in this caliber. So be careful when pushing the power limits on an encore. |
