I've got a Capstick built on a Rem700 action with Lothar 24" barrel. When built, it was deliberately made light at 4kg so that it could be carried all day. A mild load of 80gr AR2208 (Varget) behind the 500gr Woodleigh will get your attention. Rifle will be Magna-ported in the coming months to reduce recoil and muzzle flip and barrel length reduced to 22". Haven't chronographed it yet but I want 2100fps and no more. I see no reason to chase 2400fps in a light rifle. I'm using CH/4D dies and I'm not ready to happily endorse them yet, resizing seems to be harder than it should and I still cant work out whether they crimp or not. I'm waiting on some Speer 400gr GoldDot projectiles to start working on reduced plinking loads at essentially 45/70 velocities. Biggest hassle found so far is getting .475cal pilots for trimmers etc... Cheers... |
