I think the 470 capstic would be a fine round - if kept to ballistic equivilent of the 470NE. Problem is, everyone (including art alphin) wants to push it beyond the magic 2150fps mark. Why??? What's the 470 at 2150 done so poorly in the past 99-years that warrants improvement with more velocity? The slowest (and lowest pressure load) listed in Any Shot You Want is a 500gr bullet at 2283fps and at 49KPSI. I think lowering the velocity by 100fps would probably reduce the pressure by 5K and make it a worry-free round. The fastest (and higest pressure load) listed in the same book is around 2400fps and 60KPSI. IMO, I just don't see the need to push a 475 bullet beyond the tried and true 2150 mark. I think if you load one to those velocities, it is a cartridge with which you should have no problems. Bullets are available and brass is easy to come by in it's cylindrical form. |
