Fergus, I bought the rifle in the UK some years before I came to live in Africa and it started life as a .416 Weatherby...... not because I like the Weatherby theories but because it was the only left hand action I could buy. I had it rebuilt to .500 by Sabi Rifles a few years ago..... however the last time I was there they told me they had just bought a bunch of L/H actions from (I think) Dakota rifles...... anything built on those actions should be fabulous...... The recoil isn't too bad but I do have a mercury tube recoil arrestor fitted into the stock which helps a lot....as does that particular stock design. The stock was made to my measurements which also helps. When I got the rifle back from Sabi they hadn't fitted the mercury tube and it kicked like a bastard but they had warned me about it and said I should consider the mercury tube option....... they weren't wrong! I'm used to the rifle now and don't find it uncomfortable at all....... and subsequent shots are very quick.....although I have to say, I usually find the first shot does the business and follow up shots are rarely needed...... |
