That was my "want" gun for African hunting for several decades. That never came to fruition, but the ballistics stuck with me.
400gr. at 2,150fps from my .458 American on a VZ34 Mauser - for almost 4 decades.
The 400 gr 2,150 fps .404 ballistics are it's original ballistics from overva hundred years ago.
Modern powders get it up to 2,300 fps, maybe more. I've never used a chronograph with mine. Or don't remember the speeds if written down.
Some articles still refer to it's ballistics of 2,150 fps as modern ballistics. Those writers have probably never shot one , and just repeat what others have written and they've read.
